The Public Health Department of the Ministry is responsible for policy directions and actions regulation, training, surveillance, awareness creation and implementation of health activities. These activities are carried out through the various units/sections which are:
Monitoring and Evaluation, Women in Health/Adolescent Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDs, Roll Back Malaria, Environmental Health Services, Epidemiology/Disease Control, Non Communicable Diseases, Tuberculoses/Leprosy Unit, Neglected Tropical Diseases, Health Education, Immunization Services unit, Safe Motherhood unit, Reproductive Health/Family Planning, Nutrition, Public Health Laboratory unit, Integrated Management of Childhood illness (IMCI), Prevention of Blindness, and Occupational Health Unit.
The department also provides effective public health laboratory services in collaboration with NAFDAC (National Agency on Food and Drug Administration and Control) in the state. In collaboration with some world agencies and organization, like World Bank, World Health Organization, UNICEF, and German Leprosy Relief Agency.
