SOML P FOR R

Saving  One  Million  Lives  Programme  for  Results  (SOMLPforR)  initiative  was  launched  in response to poor health outcomes for mothers and children in the country. It was estimated that one (1) million women and children die annually from causes that were preventable.

SOMLPforR is a performance-based intervention and seeks to improve maternal, neonatal and child health indices and strengthen health systems by focusing on 6 key interventions and 2 enablers: Immunization, Vitamin A supplementation, Use of Long Lasting Insecticide treated Nets  (LLINs)  for  children  under  age  5,  Use  of  Skilled  Birth  Attendants  during  child  birth, Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV and Use of contraceptive devices/family planning; and Information and Communication Technology and Supply Chain Management.

Since its commencement in Rivers State in June, 2017, the Programme has under the support of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Barr Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON, GSSRS, POS Africa, made investments in several programmes, projects and activities in the State healthcare sector in line with the administration's strategy for health and the thrust of the World Bank supported SOMLPforR intervention.

By focusing on 6 key interventions and 2 enablers, the Saving One Million Lives Programme for Results  drives  measurable  improvement  in  health  outcomes  for  mothers  and  children  in particular, and health system strengthening in general.
